Custom Metal Cabana and Palapa Frames, Built to Order

FABRICATED IN FRISCO, TEXAS, USA
Every thatch roof sits on something. We build that something. My Thatch Roof fabricates welded metal frames for cabanas, palapas, pergolas and commercial shade structures — engineered for the span you need, finished in the color you choose, crated and shipped anywhere in the world. We have been building them in Frisco, Texas since 2009, for backyards in North Texas and for resorts, waterparks and restaurants well beyond it. If you have a design, we will build to it. If you have a space and an idea, we will engineer it.

WHY METAL INSTEAD OF CEDAR?
Wood posts fail from the bottom, at grade, out of sight. In a backyard that floods twice a year, or on a pool deck in constant splash, that failure clock starts the day the structure goes up. In coastal and aquatic environments it runs faster still.
A twenty-year roof on a five-year frame buys you five years. That is the single most expensive mistake we see on thatch projects, and it is why we started fabricating frames ourselves rather than hoping someone else's held up.
Metal also does things wood cannot. Longer clear spans without a post in the middle of your seating area. Slimmer profiles that disappear under the thatch instead of competing with it. Predictable connections that an engineer can actually stamp.

WHAT WE FABRICATE
Every frame is made to order. There is no catalog of stock sizes because no two projects have the same footprint, pitch or wind exposure.

-
Cabana frames freestanding or attached, single or multi-bay, sized to your deck and furniture layout
-
Palapa and tiki hut frames — round, square and hip geometries, including the hub and rafter assemblies that make a cone read correctly
-
Pergola and patio cover frames — clear-span structures for residential and commercial use
-
Welded umbrella bases — surface mount and embedded, engineered for the umbrella and the wind, not just the bolt pattern
-
Commercial shade structure frames — for resorts, waterparks, amenity decks, restaurant patios and HOA facilities
-
Retrofit reinforcement — steel welded into an existing shade structure so it can carry a thatch roof it was never designed for

HOW FRAMES GET BUILT
1. Design and takeoff
Send dimensions, a roof style or pitch, and photos or a drawing if you have them. We do the takeoff. Geometry decided without one costs real money later, because a cone, a hip and a shed roof of identical footprint need very different material.
2. Engineering
Span, post spacing, footing and connection details are specified for your wind loads and your substrate. On commercial projects this is where the documentation package starts, because insurers and code officials both ask for it and neither one waits patiently.
3. Fabrication
Structural tube cut, fitted and welded in our Frisco shop. Rafters set at the spacing the thatch system requires, typically 24 inches on center, because course spacing and panel overlap depend on a rafter layout most generic frames do not provide.
4. Finishing
Surfaces prepped and coated. Powder coating for durability and color consistency, or a direct-to-metal industrial coating where field welding means matching new steel to existing. Colour matched to your project. In aquatic and coastal environments the coating is doing corrosion duty, not just cosmetic duty.
5. Crating and freight
Banded, palletized and wrapped for the environment it is travelling through. Metal frames ship dimensionally, so ordering the whole project at once is materially cheaper than splitting it in two. Domestic freight moves LTL. International moves LCL or in your own container, and we supply the commercial invoice, packing list and product documentation your broker will ask for.

FRAMES BUILT FOR TEXAS & EVERYWHERE ELSE
A North Texas structure swings from 110 degree August afternoons to hard January freezes, with hail in between. Open prairie north of Celina and Aubrey adds wind exposure that a sheltered suburban lot never sees. Coastal and island projects add salt. Aquatic facilities add chlorine and constant splash.
Those are four different engineering problems, and they are the reason we fabricate rather than resell. We serve Frisco, Little Elm, Prosper, Celina, Aubrey, The Colony, Plano and McKinney directly, and ship everywhere else.

MADE TO ORDER AND SHIPPED WORLDWIDE
We manufacture in Frisco, Texas, north of Dallas, which puts us on the DFW freight network with direct access to DFW International and the Alliance corridor. Frames go out to North Texas backyards, to resorts in the Caribbean, and to commercial properties on several continents.
For international orders you are normally the importer of record, so duties and local clearance are yours. We provide the paperwork that makes clearance uneventful. Get a customs broker before the container sails rather than after it arrives, because port storage accrues daily and it is the most avoidable cost in the entire process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you build to my architect's drawings?

Yes. Send the drawings and we will build to them, or tell us the constraints and we will engineer the structure ourselves. On resort and commercial work we would rather be in the conversation at design stage than substituted in at procurement.

Do you sell frames without the thatch?

Yes. Plenty of clients buy the frame alone, and plenty buy a frame to carry a roof they already own. We will also fabricate and set the base and frame and hand you the thatch to install yourself. Ask for a split quote.
What size can you span without a center post?

It depends on the load and the profile, which is exactly why every frame is engineered rather than pulled from a catalog. Longer clear spans are one of the main reasons clients choose metal over wood. Send us the space and we will tell you what is achievable.
Can a metal frame go on an existing patio or pool deck?

Often yes, using surface mount flange bases rather than embedded posts. On post-tension slabs, standard across Frisco, Prosper and Little Elm, anchoring is not a matter of drilling wherever is convenient, so this gets determined by site inspection rather than assumption.
What colors are available?

Powder coating gives you effectively any color. Bronze, black, white and sand are the most requested. In aquatic environments we specify coatings for corrosion performance first and color second.
How long does fabrication take?

It depends on size and volume, and we give you a real date rather than a hopeful one. On commercial projects approvals and documentation are usually the longest lead item, not manufacturing. Start those the week the design freezes.
